Back to basics. Tried-and-true. Small is the new big. Planning. Common sense.

These are the keys to success for small businesses in this tough economy.

So who better to talk about them than New Hampshire’s own (un)Common Man, an entrepreneur who bootstrapped a small summer restaurant on Squam Lake  into a sprawling hospitality business that includes 17 restaurants, two inns, a spa, a store, and even a movie house?

Head shot of Alex RayAlex Ray, owner and founder of The Common Man Family of Restaurants, will share his experiences and advice as the keynote speaker at MicroCredit-NH's Entrepreneurial Exchange-North: "Common" Sense Strategies for Business Success, August 16 from 8:30 a.m. to 4 p.m.at The Common Man Inn and Spa in Plymouth, NH.

The event is co-sponsored by the Plymouth Regional Chamber of Commerce and Citizens Bank Foundation.

The Entrepreneurial Exchange is the premier training and networking conference for New Hampshire's smallest businesses. The full-day event is built specifically for self-employed people and microentrepreneurs, with workshops offering best-practice and common-sense marketing and financial-control strategies.

Entrepreneurial Exchange-North workshops will include:

  • Turning Challenging Times Around. Charlene Anderson of Kamigo Marketing LLC will discuss raising your customer’s confidence levels with low-cost, high-impact marketing strategies.
  • A Proactive Approach: Improving Your Bottom Line with Credit Management. Michelle Dunn, an expert in credit and debt collection, will share ways to streamline and maximize your credit management policies.

Pre-registration is required and the fee includes lunch and refreshments.

Register before August 1 and get a $10 discount: $45 for MicroCredit-NH and Plymouth Regional Chamber of Commerce members, $55 for the public. Tickets beginning August 1 are $55 for MicroCredit-NH  and Plymouth chamber members, $65 for the public.
